slowing down the holiday weekend commute. this is the san mateo bridge. matt? >> reporter: yes, mike, fog is a major issue and especially if you are driving on bay area area. and on the -- bay area bridges and warning everyone about the fog. it is a dangerous morning with the fog. one person was killed on the off ramp here. a car slammed in the back of a big rig and caught fire at 4:30 this morning. another person was taken to the hospital. all lanes of traffic were closed. now, they are back open. >> there was a report of a wreck and we don't know if it is with this vehicle or if they were driving recklessly. we are sorting out the witness' statement. another crash at bascom avenue. off duty officer came up on the crash scene.

no word on injuries or if fog was a factor in that crash. there is a fog advisory on the san mateo bridge and the chp recommends that all drivers slow down this morning, especially if you hit the fog. reporting live, matt keller. channel 2 news. expect lots of company to be flying and hit the roads today. more americans travel more on the thanksgiving holiday. that is expected to cause gridlock and long lines at the airport as thanksgiving travellers return home today. more are expected to pass through the airport by the end of the weekend. bart is going to be running longer trains today. bart said the longer trains will run be on the pittsburgh lines. couple of residents received a scare overnight. two vehicles crashed into each other. one went into a power pole and leaving a hole in the wall.

this is near palmetto avenue. two people were transported to the hospital. their conditions are unknown at this time. the crash also knocked out power in the neighborhood. well, there is still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding a pedestrian near sfo. the female victim was hit near the boulevard off ramp just after 8:00 last night. several vehicles blocked all lanes of 101. chp issued a traffic alert and the roadways was shut down. they are trying to identify the woman and figure out why she was on the highway. >> we had witnesses called in. that's how we were notified. we are interviewing witnesses right now. >> well, news chopper two flew over 101 and took pictures of the back up. it took more than two hours to get the roadway back open. there was another

pedestrian killed in san mateo county earlier. renaldo was waiting for the bus on south delaware street before noon. they saw a car running into a cement bin and then struck him. it helped -- they helped police track down the driver. he faces hit and run and manslaughter charges. we reported this yesterday. san jose police say 42 people arrested at a weekend birthday party had different accounts of what happened. some say police fired rubber bullets leaving them with bruises. police say they were defending themselves from the people at the party who were throwing beer bottles. >> a suspect approaches the officer injured and tries to drag him into the backyard. >> no, no, come on. they wouldn't get close to us. >> they made us, and that's it. they pushed our buttons and it

went off from there. >> folks at the party were cited for towing their cars. several deputies were needed to handle the standoff. people that were arrested ranged from assault on a police officer to a variety of misdemeanors. there is another shooting in menlo park and the second in a week. the latest shooting happened before 8:00 a.m. on the 300 block of i've vie drive. at least 12 bullets were fired into a home. people were inside and the gunmen were seen getting out of a light domestic car. a man was killed and found lying on the street. they say he was with his wife at the time of the shooting. two men in hooded sweatshirts were seen running from the scene. people were hurt in a drive-by shooting and the shootings may be gang related.

there is is a scam targeting older chinese women. they uncovered the scheme in chinatown. they work in teams of three or four who frighten victims by telling them they are haunted but evil spirits and a loved one is in danger. they are told they must turn over their valuables to save their family. similar scams are reported in other asian community such as seattle and honolulu. the numbers may not tell the whole story for retailers. why the numbers may be down slightly and why retailers aren't concerned. the san francisco 49ers remain mum who is going to scart quarterback today. they face new orleans and 49 players have gone on the record saying the second year pro will be behind centerren down. theys in they can win with either quarterback and they are more concerned about the

and we will need the umbrella. we will talk about that in a minute. we have got clouds, fog and some sunshine giving you a look there. good morning. the sun rose seven minutes ago. it will set before 5:00 or so and we will have sunshine even if you are waking up with the gray at this hour. the patchy fog will stick around and at the top of the hour, it is dense in some cases for parts of the north bay lasting through 9:00 this morning. it is fairly widespread and reporting visibility down to a quarter of a mile. if you go to sfo, you could have delays there. we are not expecting to see improvements until 9:00ing or so. we are looking pretty good by this time. perhaps a little bit of low cloud cover and the east bay and down into the south bay want we have sunny skies in store for the afternoon. we have a weak system here. you can see them brushing along the northern half of california

and weakening the ridge. and temperatures for the afternoon will be slightly cooler and above the seasonal average. nice pleasant afternoon for your sunday. out outdoor. it is a chilly one. upper 30s and 40's. and 45 in novato and around the bay area. and it feels a little better. >> 52 san francisco and in oakland and upper 40s in and around fremont this morning. for the afternoon, expect the temperatures at 69 degrees for santa rosa and in san rafael. upper 60s expected in oaklandle and 65 for san francisco. 67 for concord and into pleasant ton for the afternoon. and livermore, the south bay looking good. 59 san jose. and 57 expected for san mateo. we get into monday, we will continue with the dry conditions. our temperatures will begin to dip in the overnight hours with

sit-in. supporters of the egyptian judiciary chanted outside. some judges and prosecutors are on strike because morsi didn't back down. they accuse him of a power grab and an attack on the courts. he said he had ensuring justice. there is is an encouraging sign that the count cease-fire between israel and the hamas militant group will hole. in the gaza strip, they announced it would be a sin for anyone who violates the truce. they issued a religious he had dike and it helps legitimize the cease-fire. the agreement remains fragile as nothing has been worked out other than the cease-fire. israel is the target of another militant group. hezbollah is warning they will

fire rockets into tel aviv if a war breaks out. they fought against hezbollah in 2006. we are learning about a plane crash that killed a danville man. russell hackler was killed when his single engine plane crashed into the hillside of the airport. hackler was the only person on board the plane. >> he said, you know, if i check out tomorrow, i have had a full life. i have done everything i want. i enjoyed myself. i am happy. and it is all been good. the faa is looking into the cause of the crash. black friday sales appear to be down but the early start may be to blame. the shopper track found they spent $11.2 billion on black friday. that is down 1.8% from last year. the black friday numbers may appear to be down because they

don't include numbers from thanksgiving night. cyber monday deals are being offered earlier. walmart, amazon and best buy all rolled out free black friday deals before thanksgiving. americans spent $1.2 million on cyber money. they expect similar sales for 2012. skip the black friday madness and patronized small businesses on small business saturday. this is what she sees on a typical saturday. they packed stores in danville and berkeley. >> it is a great response today. people are actually making a point. and saying we are here because we want to support downtown. >> business owners we talked to, say the turnout made them optimistic about the upcoming shopping season. president obama made it a point to patronize small businesses by doing holiday shopping in in a book store in

african-american arlington, virginia. he bought 15 books that he is going to gives a christmas presents. there is a mall and this is height on you tube. he started recording when he saw a violent brawl break out at the rose ville galleria. one shopper even threw a trash cab. >> they were -- trash can. >> they were throwing merchandise in the air and had hit another girl in the head. >> a fight started inside the victoria's secret store and the video of the fight is viewed more than 19,000 times. they tell us by the time they arrived to the mall, the crowd was dispersed and no one was arrested. he lost his job as a security guard shot and killed his replacement. the shooting happened in harris county. authorities say the accused shooter was fired two weeks ago. and kept showing up for work. >> the new security guard that

was replacing him said he was terminated at which time he pulled his weapon and shot the security guard that was relacing him. >> both the suspect and victim were in uniform when that happened. they robbed a pleasant hill market. it happened friday night at the fine liquor store on contra costa boulevard. the robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. no one was hurt. >> a court hearing is schedule for a ville lay hoe teenager for a brutal attack on a woman. he faces 10 felony counts. sexual assault. attempted murder and kidnapping for ransom. the victim was abducted from the gateway plaza at gunpoint. a sheriff's deputy accused of robbing a bank is scheduled to be in court tomorrow. he is expected to be arraigned on charges of robbing a bank of america earlier this month.

they found his fingerprints on a ransom note and saying he recently filed for bankruptcy. >> they will begin accepting police officer job applications starting tomorrow. you must be at least 20 years old to take the police officer examination. there is no maximum age limit. applicants must be a u.s. citizen. you need a valid driver's license and can not have any felony convictions. the city of antioch is trying to entice officer ises to transfer from other agencies. they will consider amending their contract with the public system to come up with the formula that could have officers retouring earlier. right now the city has 14 vacant police officer positions to fill. a controversy at a public school. certain things are offensive and should be beened. >> this black smoke could be seen from shore.

. the coast guard rescued three people after their yacht caught fire off the coast of florida. it is on the 80-foot yacht bliss off the coast of miami beach. the clouds of smoke could be seen from shore. >> we saw all the smoke and the ships racing towards it at a high rate of speed. >> three people jumped into the sea and were rescued. the owner of the yacht is now trying to make arrangements to have it towed to shore. they want to ban native american mascots at public schools.

this has been going on for years. they use a reference to native americans with the mascots and commission members say they have been linked to harassment and stereotyping of native american students. there is is a football game and they will kick off against the ucla bruins. and sanford had no trouble clinching the division beating ucla down teleat the rose bowl. >> he rushed for 142. it is the ninth time he ran for more than 100 yards in a game. you can watch the pac-12 championship game friday night. a dream season for the spartans continues in the nationally televised game. beat louisiana tech and the quarterback david fails threw for 300 yards. they have the 10th win and expect an invite to a pretty

people start to hit the brake lights really quick. we are looking at fog and we will continue through the morning hours. it is a fog advisory over the north bay. sunny skies expected for the afternoon. advisory will last through 9:00. we seeing fog around the bay area. and across the bridges and down into san jose. livermore and concord reporting good conditions in your neighborhoods. the afternoon is going to be mild once again. we will see a few degrees of cooling in some areas. all in all, a great looking afternoon for your sunday. 69 santa rosa. and 65 san francisco. bring us into wednesday. today is going to be nice. no problem with the afternoon today. and by wednesday morning take a look. system rolling in and bringing us rain early on. breezy conditions expected. doesn't last too long and now we are into thursday. see the time stamp. another storm begins to move in. that was friday and now it is saturday morning. so the rain is still around.

where it is socked in for hours. >> matt, any clearer there? >> reporter: yes, it is a little bit clear. fog is still an issue here on the san mateo bridge. they are asking people to slow down. some have fog ads. we are showing you -- fog advisories. and just how thick the fog is here. chp say some of the worse accidents happen on bridges. >> they are dangerous. not much time to react with the thick fog. it seems to center over water usually. as you can see, we have thick fog behind us. not much reaction time. one person was killed on a westbound 80 on the off ramp at about 2:20 this morning. chp wasn't saying if fog was a factor when it slammed in the back of a big rig. >> reporter: another person was taken to the hospital.

the area was cleaned up and now they are back open. now the chp told me some of the accidents this holiday weekend was caused by drowsy drivers. they are asking people to be alert when they hit the road this morning. two children are among the four people killed in a wreck in the sierra. it happened last night on highway 50 near placerville. it slammed into a toyota minivan. and for some unknown reason, the prius went out of its lane into the path of a minivan. some survived the crash including 1-year-old twins. on the morning of black friday. a second person died from her injuries when the family's suv ran into a parked chp car on 101. they were returning from a shopping trip in gill roy.

>> -- gilroy and her 24-year-old sister died at the scene. investigators are looking into whether or not their father fell asleep at the wheel. the chp reports deadly crashes and duis are up. officers say in the first few days of the holiday weekend. three people were killed. 159 people were arrested on suspicion of driving the under the influence. one person died at bay area roads and 150 people were arrested during the charges during the same period last year. the maximum enforcement period ends tonight. >> oregon man is facing dui charges after a crash left his pick up dangling from a freeway over pass for almost an hour. >> near beaverton, it shut down the roadway for several hours after it went over a guardrail yesterday. they say the trucks back axle actually got caught on the railing which is the only thing that kept it from going over

the edge. >> all the traffic stopped immediately and trying to figure out what was going on. and that's when i started noticing the truck was hanging over the side. firefighters immediately went to work stabilizing the car and chaining it to fire trucks and an officer said at one point, they tried to climb out of the door and told to stay put once the. once they managed to get him out. they brought in the crane to lift them off the railing. as the family of a carjacking victim paid their respects to a las vegassed one, they are questioning san jose police staffing. hundreds of people converged on a chapel to bid farewell to this man. he was carjacked last week at 7-11. news cameras were not allowed inside the service but his father talked to us outside. >> i appreciate the chance knowing whether he was my son

or not. he helped me through a difficult illness. he kept me smiling and laughing. >> his brother told ktvu, that if they had not laid off police officers in recent years, his brother may still be alive. we have more information on the arrest in the case. police released surveillance video of inside a convenience store. jonathan wilbanks and another person is accused of shooting at police. but as we reported yesterday, officers tracked down the second suspect, a 15-year-old in concord friday night. they found him in an apartment complex and he is since booked into the santa clara juvenile hall. >> that is the important question we have been asking and what the correlation of the tie between and i am sure that will be provided as the investigation continues. no one will receive the

$0,000 reward. they say they are looking for ways to increase ridership. the news reports an upgrade called bart metro could boost ridership by 2015. it calls for increased service. express trains that would only stop at certain stations. up grades depend on bart finding enough money to improve the aging system. they have expanded the list of people who can shoot birds at the san jose airport. airport staffers and they will be allowed to shoot the birds in addition to the police. they have reported 180 bird strikes since 2009. including a takeoff that had to be aborted after bird strikes damaged both engines. this is scheduled for tomorrow for the suspects accused of vandalism. the video of the vandalism was posted on line.

that could have a domino effect on what is going on. we have low clouds and fog in many spots. dense fog advisory and the national weather service has actually he can tended it a little bit into some areas right around the bay. so san pablo bay and sfo with the fog ad is well. and here is a look at what we are seeing. it is down into san jose and into the north bay. it is really thick. visibility quarter mile in many spots. petaluma reporting some of this. napa valley, it is thick for you as well. inner east bay, partally cloudy and in areas like livermore and something we will have to ken with for the next hour or two. i will show you what to expect and when i do expect it to burn off, coming up in a little bit. it is specifically for parts of the north bay and now, into the bay and this is going to last until 9:00 or so. you want to take it slow if you have an early morning drive.

. good morning to you. a foggy lafayette this morning. some of us socked in pretty good. mostly sunny and mild for the afternoon. new this morning, one person is critically injured in a double shooting in oakland. it happened around 6:00 a.m. at brook ideal avenue. and they did not release the condition of the second person shot and what led up to the shooting. seven people killed and others wounded in the city of oakland in a 24 hour period. the tribune reports they found greasy moral lease shot -- graceie morales and she was the mother of a 3-year-old boy. a 19-year-old man was shot on san pablo avenue yesterday afternoon and later died of his injuries. there were six nonfatal injuries between friday and saturday afternoon. billing inspectors in massachusetts said a gas explosion in springfield

damaged 42 buildings. it leveled a strip club and heavily damaged a day care center. they are not sure what caused the explosion over several blocks. they evacuated part of the entertainment district after a heavy gas odor filled the air. >> any ignition source can set the detonation. that could be a spark. that could be a telephone ringing. a door bell. the explosion injured 18 people. most of them were emergency responders or utility workers. two others need further inspections to determine if they are structurally sound. that wasn't the only mass fire. historic fire was in boston. 100 firefighters were called in to battle the flames. they were hurt when part of the building collapsed. several dozen were displaced and the cause of that fire is still under investigation. 101 people died in a fire

at a bangladesh garment factory that had no emergency exits. >> they tried to escape the flames bring jumping from the building. it started at this building operated by tasmine factories. they lack safety measures. here in the united states. three maintenance workers are being treated for a serious injuries after the state department in washington d.c., they were working on ductwork when the fire sparked up yesterday morning. one suffered life-threatening injuries. the other two are seriously hurt but expected to survive. the building was evacuated for a short time. the white house and cok may have reached a deal. they have a few weeks to reach the deal before the country falls over the fiscal cliff. we are updated as lawmakers return to washington this week from their holiday break. >> reporter: after meeting with president obama before the

thanksgiving holiday,. >> i want to welcome the congressional leadership here. >> reporter: congressional leaders expressed optimism to reaching more in tax increases and that is to take effect next year. >> constructive meeting with the president to talk about america's physical problem. >> we have the cornerstones of being able to work something out. >> reporter: they have been working behind the scenes to find common ground. the sticking points how to bring in more tax revenue and reduce spending on programs like medicare. but it is not yet clear when the lawmakers and the president will meet next. even if some progress is made this week. a final deal can be a long way off. >> we rarely see the hill and the white house make decisions early. they tend to do better when they have a deadline. i would be pleasantly surprised to see it, a deal emerge earlier than the end of the

home. and it is a big hole in the wall. the accident happened at 12:30 and on the boulevard and two people were taken to the hospital. their conditions are unknown at this time. it knocked out power in that neighborhood. >> there is still many unanswered questions surrounding the death of a pedestrian and highway 101 near sfo and the female victim was hit in the road near the off ramp just after 8:00 last night. several vehicles were involved and blocked all lanes of 101. they issued a severe traffic alert a short time later and the entire roadaway was shut down. they are trying to identify the woman and figure out why she was on the highway. we do have witnesses that had called in and that is how we were notified. and still under investigation of who and who. and we are interviewing witnesses right now. news chopper two was above 101 and is shot pictures of the

back up that went on for miles. it took two hours to get the roadway open. one other person was killed an hour earlier. he was waiting for the bus on south delaware street just before noon. witnesses saw a car running into a cement trash bin which then struck the man. police say the witnesses help track down the suspected driver. lopez faces hit and run and vehicular manslaughter charges. we have new information about a double shooting that we told you about earlier this morning. the police are treating this as a double homicide. two women who were shot at 6:00 a.m. have died from their injuries. police have not real released any more details surrounding the shooting. we have a follow up to the story right here on "mornings on 2". san jose police and the 42 people arrested in a weekend

"mornings on 2". >> i am claudine wong. >> i am mike mibach. many of you can see fog and it is starting to clear up. bay area drivers have been encountering low visibility and right into the morning. this is the bridge where it is socked in all morning long. matt? >> reporter: it is improving a little bit and the san mateo bridge and see the warning sign giving drivers a head's up and the conditions improve as drivers head into the middle the span and into foster city. here is a live look at the traffic camera on 101 and san jose. they are showing a lot of fog and traffic is still moving. now the traffic camera looking at 80 sits on top of a building and you are looking through the fog. that's why i look so bad. and they are typically at their worse around bridges and making driving especially dangerous. >> they are going to cross the bridge and reduce the speed. and it is that little bit of

. good morning to you. a mice shot there from bay point this morning. high clouds overhead. and mostly sunny skies. nice looking day in store. two people were killed and seven others wounded in the city of oakland. in a four hour period. the police found 18-year-old grazeie morales shot to death in her apartment complex saturday morning. according to the report, she is a mother of a 3-year-old boy. a 19-year-old man was shot and later died from his injuries. there were six nonfatal shootings few dan and saturday afternoon. now they say a gas explosion in the city of springfield damaged 42 buildings. it leveled a strip club and heavily damaged a day care center. they are not sure what caused the explosion that scattered debris over several blocks. it is part of the entertainment
